Dear Praying Friends,
Persecution in North Africa continues to weigh heavily on our hearts. In this Prayer Letter, you will read stories that reveal both the suffering and the steadfast faith of those who follow Christ in this region: A Father’s Tears, Hiding in the Desert, and A Brother Threatened. Each story reminds us that the cost of being a Christian is great, yet the light of the Gospel continues to shine even in the darkest corners.
These stories remind us that persecution cannot silence the gospel. On the contrary, it seems that every blow strengthens the resolve of those who bear Christ’s name.
As I was writing this, I read about a young Christian, 18 years old and still in secondary school, who was arrested near the 15 May area of Egypt.
When he was arrested on October 22nd, his family was told that he would be released soon, provided no media noise was made. The family waited, and on November 2nd - more than 10 days after his arrest - he appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution.
His charges were:
- Joining an organization established in violation of the law
- Disturbing public peace and security
- Misusing social-media platforms
- Contempt of religion
When asked about the conditions of his detention, the young man stated that he had been tortured and that he was suffering from extreme exhaustion and visible fear. The prosecution refused to record his statements about the torture. As of this day, November 20th, he is still being held.
November was a very heavy month, hearing story after story come in. But we know that God is at work in so many ways. And we also know that God will turn what was meant for evil into good. He is the Redeemer.
As you pray, remember that your prayers matter. They strengthen weary believers, bring comfort to the persecuted, and remind them they are not forgotten. Stay strong and pray hard.
Blessings,
Brother Dave
