Ramadan's heightened tension: Christians must tread even more carefully

The following is an excerpt of a letter from a Brother in North Africa:

It’s a difficult time, especially with the start of the month of Ramadan, and I feel a lot of pressure on us, the Christians living in this Islamic country. This year, Ramadan started on February 17th and ends on March 19th, 2026.

While many Muslims sincerely seek God during this month, it can also be a period of intense spiritual darkness and pressure for Christians. Many believers feel isolated within their own family, community, and in the workplace. We don’t have the freedom to be Christians or to openly profess our faith within these communities. Let me share with you some stories of what our brothers and sisters are going through during these circumstances, or what they are preparing for this month.

Mohsen and his extremist Salafist family, and Ramadan:

Brother Mohsen, 26 years old, is a believer in Christ. As Ramadan approached, I spoke with him a week ago, and he was very afraid because during Ramadan he will be forced to go with his family to pray in the mosque, even though he believes in Christ. He asked me to pray for him a lot and for these circumstances. He asked me how he should handle this situation. Honestly, I didn’t know how to answer him. I told him I would pray for him so that God would give him wisdom to respond to his family’s demands.

Pray that God gives him wisdom and that he is able to respond in a Godly way to them.

Pray that God grants him wisdom and patience during these circumstances.

Brother Anas, longing for his family

We thank God for Brother Anas, a 22-year-old university student who is diligent in his studies and strong in his faith. Recently, his family discovered a Bible in his bedroom. When they realized he was following Christ, they immediately forced him to leave their home and disowned him.

Anas is now living in a shared room in a rented house, continuing his education while adjusting to life without the support of his family. When I visited him, he spoke honestly about the pain he carries. “My dear brother,” he said, “I longed for the family gatherings, especially over Ramadan, for the food and the fellowship.” Then, through tears, he asked me, “Should I return to the family?”

His grief was deep, and I later realized that I, too, had been moved to tears. I reminded him that although his earthly family has rejected him, he has brothers and sisters in Christ and the church are praying for him.

Please pray that the Lord will give Anas wisdom and discernment to make decisions according to God’s heart, and that he will continue to find strength and comfort in the family of faith.

How You Can Pray

Pray for the Church – that believers will stand firm, gather for fellowship when possible, and find encouragement despite isolation.

Pray for New Believers – many are experiencing their first Ramadan as followers of Christ. Pray for wisdom, courage, and steadfast faith.

Pray for Seekers – that those searching for truth will encounter Christ, and that doors will open for the gospel to be shared. Pray for divine appointments and bold witness.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer. Your intercession truly makes a difference in the lives of persecuted believers. May the Lord richly bless you.
